Energy miscalculation
Planning based on an ideal energy level rather than your actual capacity.
What it is
Energy miscalculation is when you plan as if you’ll have more energy than you realistically will. You may create a schedule for a fantasy version of yourself: well-rested, focused, emotionally steady, uninterrupted, and fully motivated. Then when real energy shows up lower, the plan collapses and you blame yourself. This pattern is different from time miscalculation because the schedule might technically fit on paper, but it doesn’t fit your actual body, mood, attention, or recovery needs.

How to work on it
Plan from actual energy, not aspirational energy. Before scheduling tasks, ask: “What is my realistic energy today?” Then match task intensity to capacity. High-energy tasks might include deep work, conflict, errands, or creative decisions. Low-energy tasks might include maintenance, tidying, or simple replies. If energy is low, the plan should change instead of becoming a self-attack. Keep in mind that what feels like a high- or low-energy task for you may be different for someone else. It’s about your capacity, not comparison.
Try this
Use an energy-based to-do list. Divide tasks into high energy, medium energy, and low energy. Each morning, check your capacity and choose from the matching category. This prevents you from demanding high-energy output from a low-energy state.
